30 Jun 2008 12:18 Lightbulb moment - On friendship
Posted by: nina
The other day I bumped into a good acquaintance. She looked me straight in the eye, beamed and started the conversation off with 'Nina, last time we met you were just about to go on holiday to Dorset. How was it?'
I instantly felt important, listened to, impressed she'd remembered and as if here was someone who really cared about me. The conversation had got off to a good start and I thought that we could possibly become friends (note my deep British reserve).
What could you do to instantly make someone feel heard?
What could you do to turn an acquaintance into a friend?
We often network effectively at work, remembering colleagues children's' names and the last project we worked on with them. Similarly we remember our good friends and their trials and excitements. But there's a middle strand - those acquaintances. One day they might become friends - or colleagues.

Ask yourself :
What's one thing you get out of over-doing whatever it is you're over-doing?
And where else could you get that 'thing'?
Those two questions will start you thinking about your 'vices' on a deeper level and move you towards getting rid of them.

Ask yourself:
If you did one thing you really wanted to do today, what would it be?
and follow it with...
What would make it easier for you to answer that first question?
Those two questions will get you thinking about the things you want for yourself this week. They will help you access your intuition so you can know what you want - and what you don't.
