Superhero here I come

Another busy week from coaching headquarters! Clients, school runs, swimming lessons, gymnastics class (not me silly, my daughter!), and a trip to the doctors with my son for his seasonal flu jab. He was not impressed to say the least, until I popped a chocolate button in his mouth. Oh how wonderful it must be, when a chocolate button melts away all your worries!

It has also been a liberating week for me as I’ve made an important business decision. Since starting my business, I’ve pretty much done everything myself, from coaching my clients, marketing my practice to doing my own accounts. And in a way I quite enjoy it. I hate to admit it, but I am a bit of a control freak (see, even life coaches aren’t perfect!). I do enjoy playing the superhero, juggling many balls and dashing from one crisis to another. But, as much as I like to think of myself as ‘Elastigirl’ from the Disney movie ‘The Incredibles’, I’m not! I’m just a normal working mum, like any other, with a pile of ironing as high as Mount Everest and a child dangling from under each arm! I am not a superhero and I cannot conquer the world (although it’s fun to still try!).

So, with this new insight I have decided to hire a PR agent to help me with my publicity, as I simply do not have the time anymore. As my family and business has expanded in recent years, so my time has diminished. This has been a big decision for me, because it means losing control and this sends us control freaks into a complete frenzy! But, it also feels strangely freeing at the same time. Woo hoo! I’ve realised that I can’t do it all and be everything to everyone, there are people out there who  can help… if we’re willing to let them.

Sometimes we all need to stand back a little and consider where we might be over burdening ourselves. What might you be able to delegate in your life and to whom? Maybe hiring a cleaner, or maybe seeking out a mentor or coach to help you with your own business?

A bit of food-for-thought eh.

Lots of love
