purpose

The whole point of Mummo is to help make mums happier, on the grounds that happy mums make for happy families. And, whilst it might be unrealistic to expect happiness 100% of the time, the more the better is what we say!

In case you’re wondering, when we say ‘mums’, we mean biological mums, step mums, adoptive mums, foster mums, mums-to-be and anyone who would class themselves as a mother.

Mummo is a social enterprise which means that, whilst it’s run just like any other business, it’s designed to benefit society rather than make any individual rich. We fully intend for it to become profitable because, as soon as it is, we promise to:

• plough at least 25% of all pre-tax profits back into the business in order to increase its impact, and
• donate at least a further 25% of all pre-tax profits to appropriate charities aimed at helping women, in this country and abroad

Why would we do this? Well, some people might say it’s because we’ve lost our marbles! But actually it’s because we’re more motivated by making a difference than by making money for ourselves. For us, there are other kinds of wealth that are worth more in the long run.

Everything we do is governed by two core principles:

We believe that real contentment depends on us feeling comfortable with all the various aspects of ourselves and our lives. To us, it makes more sense to look at the whole picture than to focus only on a few isolated pieces of the puzzle.

This means that we are committed to:

• looking at the bigger picture and taking a holistic approach wherever possible
• recognising the need for each of us to find our own balance in life
• accepting and respecting people as individuals, and valuing differences

Like ripples in a pond, every individual and organisation has an impact on others and, we believe, a responsibility towards the rest of society. We choose to ensure that our impact is as positive as it possibly can be.

This means that we are committed to:

• always behaving in an ethical manner - with honesty, decency and fairness
• taking care of our environment
• acting assertively, and encouraging others to do the same
• encouraging people to feel better about themselves and their lives
• helping people to learn and grow, in their own ways
• making a tangible and positive difference to society
